Information about MCC Learning Programme for FETC: ECD (Level 4) SAQA ID 58761

FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING CERTIFICATE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT is nationally accredited ECD qualification SAQA ID No. 58761.

It is at Level 4 on the National Qualification Framework (NQF)

 

The qualification is 142 Credits, which is 1420 hours of learning which includes Contact Time at MCC, working with children in an ECD setting, doing assignments, making classroom posters, games, equipment and Teaching Aids, etc.

Learners collect evidence of their competence by building and maintaining a Portfolio of Evidence and implementing their learning at their ECD setting. This evidence is assessed by registered assessors, moderated and then presented to the nationally Accreditation body for final verification and certification.

 

Purpose of this qualification:

This qualification is an entry-level qualification for those who want to enter the field of education, training and development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD).

This qualification will enable recipients to facilitate the all-round development of young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs), and enable them to provide quality early childhood development services for children in a variety of contexts, including community-based services, ECD centres, in playgroups, at home and in institutions.

Recipients of this qualification will be able to:

    1. Plan and Prepare for Early Childhood Development
    2. Facilitate and Monitor the development of babies, toddlers and young children
    3. Provide Care and Support to babies, toddlers and young children.

Admission and certification requirements:

  • Grade 12 or Grade 11

Duration:

  • 16 weeks of attendance at Midlands Community College – 2 weeks per month, for 8 months
  • During the Learning Blocks students will also have assignments and tasks to complete in 
the evenings and at weekends.
  • The students need to practice teaching and working with children during the specified 
Practical Teaching Blocks, in order to accumulate evidence of teaching competence.
  • The evidence of teaching practice and working with children forms part of the Portfolio of 
Evidence which is required for the qualification.
  • For the duration of the Practical Teaching Blocks, the students are expected to volunteer 
at an ECD Centre (Preschool) OR to run their own playgroup for 1-5 children, aged from birth to 5 years.

  • Step 2 – Pay the R500 application fee (please use the reference: Surname Level 4 2022
  • Step 3 – Email through the required documentation listed on the online application form to teressa@midlandscommunitycollege.co.za, including proof of payment of R500 application fee.
  • Step 4 –  Receive confirmation in writing that you have been accepted onto the ECD FETC Level 4 2022, along with further course information and payment arrangements

Dates for Intake of Leaners

Course dates will run from February – November 2022.

Please note that as this is a full qualification structured toward the completion of a Portfolio of Evidence. The final module will be completed at the end of 2021, with the Portfolio of Evidence submitted at the last training session.

Portfolios of Evidence are assessed and moderated internally and then externally by the ETDP SETA. Thereafter the qualification will be endorsed for the learner. External moderation timeframes are set by the ETDP SETA, but we would anticipate that statements of results should be available by March 2022.

 

Facilities and Accommodation

Midlands Community College has two well-resourced ECD Classrooms as well as a forty seater computer room, with internet connectivity.
Accommodation is provided in four  – eight bedded rooms, with communal bathrooms and showers. Three meals per day are provided in the dining room or, if a self catering option is selected, emals can be prepared in a communal kitche.

There is 24-hour security.
Learners are required to bring their own bedding as well as eating crockery, mugs and utensils. There is a code of conduct that is required to be followed by learners.

2022 Payment Deadlines:

  • Applications close on the 31st January 2022
  • Nonrefundable application fee of R500 is due before application forms can be processed.
  • The course deposit is required to secure your place on the course. Last date for payment of deposits will be the 4th February 2022.
  • First month course fee installment is due 28th February 2022
